Subject: Application for a study permit to pursue Post-Graduate Certificate in Engineering Business and Safety Management at Confederation College, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada

I, Ram Karki, a civil engineer, am pleased to mention that with the advancement of technology and the world moving too fast, we check ourselves as if we are not left behind. Engineering is a bridge that molds the person, creates vision, shapes ideas, and prepare us to build the world that we dreamt to live. Providing application of safety, ethical and moral principles to solve real-world challenges, engineering for me is not only a profession but my passion. And I strongly believe, when passion comes with a profession, it makes a very bold combination. A unique program in itself designed for international students, Engineering Business and Safety Management makes the students to be expertise in engineering, industrial, and construction sectors for staff with expertise in project management, occupational health and safety management, human resources, contract and cost management, and much more. Being brought up in a world full of challenges and competition, observing the world from a distance, and criticizing for not finding the world perfect, I found a perfect way to shape the place through this subject. Thereby, I am privileged to submit my statement of purpose to pursue the post-graduation for the study of this course at Confederation College, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. I have always pushed myself beyond my boundaries and comfort when it comes to education. Academically, I completed my School Leaving Certificate (SLC) Examination with 84.25% in 2014. Similarly, after the completion of my schooling, the urge to follow my dreams and fear of failure led me to choose the science faculty. I completed my Higher Secondary Board Examination with 84.10% in 2016. Being very passionate about my studies, I was sponsored Scholarship for Entrance Examination by the Institute of Engineering (IOE). I graduated with my Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from Tribhuvan University in 2021 with 67.33%. Likewise, I was favored with a Civil 'A' category engineering license administered by Nepal Engineering Council after my Bachelor's which I believe is my best achievement in helping me to pursue my career. Being a diligent student since my childhood, my academic acquirements build-up confidence in me to chase my future in a foreign land and push my limits furthermore. After completing my graduation, having my own self-doubts, and searching for ways to enhance my knowledge and use my skills perfectly, I trained for AutoCAD and SketchUp training in 2018, followed by ETABS Online Workshop in 2020 to sharpen my expertness. I also joined AutoCAD Municipal Building Drawing Training in 2021. I realized that my toddling feet have to be firm and resonate with a future where I cannot only support a family but exist with a firm background support, that is why I started working as a Civil Graduate Researcher in 2021 at Entegra Sources Private Limited. Kathmandu (https://ente grasources.com/). Creating documentation, user manuals, and other technical content of various engineering fields that convert complex technical language into simpler language, and learning under the supervision of other employees helped me modify my skills in a perfect way. Likewise, I worked as a surveyor and building analyst where I got experience in preparing safe sites for construction and also identifying the safety of different structures. Later, Joining BDAnepal Private Limited (http://bdanep.com.np) as a Junior Civil Engineer has become a great value to me where I gotinvolved in the safe design and analysis of structures by fixing issues with the implementations and design. As a registered civil engineer in Nepal and a member of the Engineering Council, I uphold the standards and am committed to expanding my knowledge and talents. In the course of my job experience, I had numerous opportunities to visit various locations and assess the value of the civil engineering and construction industries to the growth of the country. The earthquake caused in our country in 2072, causing the loss of more than thousands of lives, properties, and different cultural sites made me think how unsafe our country was. The history of disasters in Nepal, including floods, landslides, and earthquakes, has always created a threat to the population, both now and in the future. That is when I realized that the number of fatalities and property losses could be prevented if individuals had a proper understanding of safety measures and their significance to society. Additionally, it is imperative to address safety concerns in present and planned projects that are situated in regions that are extremely vulnerable to natural disasters. For instance, the Melamchi water supply project (https://www.melamchiwater.gov.mp/) is considered to be the most viable long-term alternative to ease the chronic water shortage situation within the Kathmandu Valley which is situated to zone vulnerable to landslides and Upper Bhotekoshi Hydroelectricity Project (https://www.bhotekoshi.com.np/) which is also constructed in an area susceptible to calamities. I am driven to ensure safety and mitigate risks by leveraging my expertise and implementing modifications to this project. Although I have effortlessly tackled various engineering challenges throughout my professional career, managing difficulties has necessitated some analysis. This realization prompted me to recognize that in order to achieve my aspirations and become a valuable asset to my country; I must enhance my business and management skills, as well as my safety and health assurance skills. Confederation College's Engineering Business and Safety Management curriculum caters primarily to engineering students, aiming to refine engineering techniques related to safety management and the business environment. The curriculum comprises numerous courses that I found particularly intriguing while studying civil engineering at Tribhuvan University, such as Professional Practice, Project Management, and Cost and Contract Management, but I require a more in-depth comprehension of these skills. In addition, I will be getting an opportunity to get involved with a 15- week work-integrated learning program during the fourth academic term. This program pledges to provide a real-world opportunity for learning and development as well as invaluable professional exposure from Canada for my career. Safety in our line of work as engineers is of the utmost importance. With the knowledge and abilities, I'll get from this program, I will be able to identify safety risks and put good risk management practices. The Confederation College lays out a plan for me to develop my future and realize my ambition. Thus, with an intention to pursue Engineering Business and Safety Management at Confederation College, I appeared in English Language Test in which I was able to crack my IELTS with an overall band score of 6.5 with no band less than 6 (Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 6, Speaking 6). https://www.confederationcollege.ca/program/engineering-business-and-safety-management Growing up in developing countries such as Nepal, I have found the course offerings and technologies to be limited. As one of the world's most developed nations, Canada possesses the knowledge that I require to expand my horizons. Canada, also known as "The Land of Immigrants," is home to some of the world's top educational destinations for students and boasts a diverse range of cultures. Studying in Canada provides me with a unique opportunity to learn from a nation that places a high emphasis on safety and sustainability in engineering projects, while also providing the appropriate balance of academic and practical exposure. However, the cost of tuition and living expenses in Canada can make it challenging for me to fulfill my dream of studying abroad. Nonetheless, Canada's rigorous regulations and cutting-edge engineering techniques offer an ideal environment for developing the skills needed toaddress complex infrastructure challenges while guaranteeing community safety. According to subsequent research, Canadian schools are at the top of the list for their innovating teaching philosophies. That is why I choose Canada as the city of my dreams. After mapping my best education destination, it was necessary for me to find the best route for my career. Considering each and every admission parameter and almost falling in love with the flow of the curriculum which was also very comprehensive and engaging, with sterling faculties and research opportunities, I believed Confederation College is the best fit for me to pursue this course. It is actually intriguing to take the specially created course for international students with a background in engineering, such as civil, mechanical, and industrial. Confederation College's greater employment rate, graduate satisfaction, and employer satisfaction are factors that further drew me to this institution. Confederation College's location is also extremely alluring because it is far away from the crowded city environment, allowing me to focus entirely on my studies and, I hope, achieve a good grade. https://www.confederationcollege.ca/ My constant goal has been to achieve success as a dynamic and accomplished professional, whilst making my parents proud. However, my love and attachment to my country, Nepal, is an undeniable part of my identity. With the knowledge and skills I will acquire from Confederation College, I aspire to make a positive impact and contribute to the betterment of my country. My focus will be on enhancing the welfare of Nepali workers and ensuring the long-term viability of infrastructure projects by prioritizing worker safety. I believe that strengthening the connection between business and social responsibility is also essential in promoting safety and sustainability, leading to greater success and prosperity for all businesses involved. My ultimate goal is to devote myself entirely to realizing the vision I have for my country, and making every possible contribution towards achieving that vision. For this, I intend to return to my own homeland Nepal with all the necessary knowledge. After completion of my degree, my first aim would be to find a job in Nepal matching with safety and infrastructure development with the aid of various online job portals, including esteemed sites like Kumari Job (https://www.kumarijob.com/). Mero Rojgari (https://www.meroroigari.com/), and LinkedIn jobs (https://np.linkedin.com/jobs/engineering-jobs). Similarly, private construction companies and consulting firms in Nepal are required to hire individuals with international education backgrounds for high-level positions like Project Head or Construction Manager, where I can obtain adequate experience and thoroughly study the engineering and construction industries. Alternatively, I would be looking for a job opportunity in the public sector through the Public Service Commission Examination in Nepal, where there are particular positions that are connected with safety and infrastructure development. (https://psc.gov.np/). Additionally, Nepalese construction firms like Kalika Construction Company, Raman Construction Company, and many others that are looking for workers with project management and business leadership skills as well as solid safety and health management skills will inevitably hire foreign workers to carry out such work. After completing my studies in Canada, I can focus on encouraging Nepalese people to get this experience and fill the labor market's shortage of such workers which I believe can also be done by obtaining references for restoration and reconstruction as well as taking safety management guidance from various companies, such as Til-Ka Construction Inc. (https://tilkadki.ca), Just Working Construction Inc. (https://justworking.ca/), and others in Ontario, that would inspire me to set new standards for safety leadership and business operations and advance the development of sustainable infrastructure in Nepal. Nepal, my homeland, is a diverse and culturally rich country where I have spent my childhood and youth. Leaving it permanently and settling in Canada is not a characteristic that defines me. As theyoungest son in my family. I have always been cherished and supported. My family has instilled in me the confidence and motivation to pursue my aspirations and push myself to achieve my full potential. According to Nepalese tradition, I also have a responsibility to take care of my family. Additionally, it would be a source of pride for my community and my entire family if I return home after pursuing my higher education in a foreign land. Returning to Nepal would allow me to reconnect with my roots, culture, and family. With my advanced skills in business and safety management, I aim to contribute my creative ideas to the Nepali structural development industry and construct safe and durable structures. As a certified civil engineer, I prioritize the creation of infrastructure that is both enduring and secure. Upon my return, I intend to approach each project holistically, taking into account the technical, ethical, and social aspects, to achieve favorable outcomes for the businesses involved and maximize positive effects on the community and environment. I believe that it would be a tremendous opportunity and honor for me to utilize my education, skills, and knowledge to assist Nepali communities in resolving their challenges Looking forward to the favorable consideration of my visa application, I assure you that my financial stability is fully funded by my parents. Our family's annual income is CAD 44,341.34, and my parents collectively own property worth CAD 442,722.12. For the study purpose in Canada, I have also been sanctioned an education loan of CAD 55,928.41 from Sanima Bank Limited. I have disbursed the total amount of CAD 20,900.825 from where I paid the first-year fee of my two-year course, which amounts to CAD 17,502.00. With the financial support of my sponsors and my academic abilities, I am optimistic that I will be able to continue my studies in Canada without any financial issues. A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. Education is incomplete if we do not explore our own potential and I strongly believe that after days of research, I am sure of my way of selecting the best possible option and going forward to it. I would be grateful if I am accorded an opportunity to pursue higher education at Confederation College for Engineering Business and Safety Management. Also, I assure you that all the information I provided is true and genuine and I am ready to submit any other documents upon request. Looking forward to a positive response regarding my study permit to Canada. Thank you for taking the time to read my humble request.
