                                                  Subject: Statement of Purpose

Respected Sir/Ma’am

I would like to introduce myself as Geta Mahat, daughter of Mr. Ambar Bahadur Mahat and Mrs. Sarita Mahat. I was born on 10 January 2002. I am a permanent resident of Nagarjun Municiplaity Ward No. 9, Kathmandu, Nepal, holding passport number 2562282. I am the only child of my family. My respective father runs his own business “OM.G. Wine Shop” and my mother helps him in his business and look after us. My parents have been always motivating and supporting me in ever steps of my life and I feel so blessed that they are supporting me to pursue my higher education in Fanshawe College, Ontario, Canada. My family is financially and morally strong and always work hard to secure our future.

Academic Background and Experience

Referring to my academic career, I have completed my Secondary Education Examination (SEE) in the year 2017 A.D. from Yashasvi Secondary Boarding School with the GPA of 3.25.  Following that, I joined 3 years Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing (PCL Nursing) at Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Sciences, Kathmandu, Nepal, securing 73.81 percent in the year 2020. While studying nursing, I have learned to communicate effectively with patients and provide care according to patients needs and it also helps to tackle the problems during the treatments of different diseases.

After finishing my final exam, I prepared for the license exam in Nepal. After that, I received my certificate of “Registered Nurse” on 5th of September, 2021 and the Registration Number denoted by the nursing council of Nepal is 5263836. Soon after passing my license examination, I got my opportunity to expose myself in one of the well- known organization of Nepal known as Nepal National Hospital PVT LTD located at Kalanki, Kathmandu-14. I have worked there from October 2021 to September 2022. I worked as a nursing staff under the supervision of my senior nursing assistant. There I have provided care for patient with different diagnosis under the supervision of my senior staff and doctor’s instructions.

Why Study Developmental Services Worker in Canada?

As my research I found that Developmental Services Worker program will be best option for me. As I have done my three years of nursing program at Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Sciences, I got plenty of time to explore myself as a nurse in the field of child hospital. During my study, I was placed to different hospital and was directly or indirectly involved in the treatment process of these kind of children (autism, differently abled children) and every day, I became more curious to know about them. I became more concerned about holistic development (physical, mental and social) of children and adult with different abilities and want to understand more about the main causes and best solution to mental and physical health with interpersonal skills and so on. From this kind of incidents, I came to realize the need of serving people in related field and understood that education has a significant role in our life as human. I have experience the situation of health care system in my hometown and found that it is not in a good condition. I saw so many people in our place who are deprived of the health care services provided by the government, those people lack support and care which made me develop more of my interest to pursue my career in the Developmental Services Worker. Besides this, a career as a developmental services worker will allow me to help people with disabilities live, work and participate in their communities. I will use my skills to support people with intellectual disabilities, autism, physical challenges or other needs.

As I decided to study Post-Secondary Diploma program in Developmental Services Worker, I did research in my home country, Nepal and found that there were not any best institute for diploma in developmental services worker program in Nepal. Also, Education systems does not follow updated educational methods rather they focus more on theoretical knowledge than providing students with practical experiences. I cannot be stuck with only theoretical knowledge in a subject like social science. Additionally, our country has high demand for those nationals who are graduated from the international universities because the education system of Nepal is not globally recognized. So, I was encouraged to continue studying overseas through an updated curriculum framework, experiencing updated and practical based education system. When you decide to study abroad for further education it is hard to choose specific educational destinations. With intense research, attending and consulting in different educational fairs I came to finalize Canada as a place for my further study. Canada offers unparalleled education opportunities across the globe. A degree earned from Canadian colleges is highly-acclaimed and globally recognized. It is also one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse countries in the world, with over 50% of the population not speaking English as their first language. Counting over 120,000 international students each year, anywhere in Canada, I will be surrounded by a large multicultural environment, both in classrooms, as well as in the society. This creates a great advantage for any international student like me, meaning that I can easily adapt and make friends. Canada is one of the safest countries in the world, with a low crime rate. In terms of social progress and development, according to Global News, Canada was ranked the second country in the world with the highest quality of life.

Along with Canada, I had shortlisted USA and Australia as my probable study destinations. But the reasonable tuition fees in Canada as compared to the United States and Australia and the overall lifestyle, peacefulness, and welcoming aura of Canada urged me to choose Canada over both countries. Futhermore, to fulfill the admission requirement I took my PTE exmanition on 05 june, 2022 ans secured an overall score of 59 (S-64 R-61 L-55 and W-55) respectively.

Reasons for choosing Fanshawe College

After deciding to study further education in Canada, I researched through internet, attends seminars and consults with my seniors, about many colleges of Canada providing the same courses. Among them I decided to study in Fanshawe College (www.fanshawec.ca) as I was highly impressed with the faculty members, course available, environment of the college offered to the students in comparison to other education provider in Canada. I found that Fanshawe is a college in the greater London region of Ontario, Canada. It provides flexible learning arrangements for its students and education based on labor market skills and needs. The college has four campuses in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Woodstock. Fanshawe teaches around 43,000 students enrolled on 200 degree, diploma, certificate and apprenticeship programs. The first and foremost reason for selecting Fanshawe as the institution of choice is because the course offered perfectly aligns with my interest and work experience. Furthermore, the developmental services worker course at Fanshawe College will help me to learn more about the developmental disabilities, different stages of human development and activities as well as it provides me the golden opportunity to explore myself as a service worker to provide support to the community people who are already suffering from disabilities. I will also learn to hand on skills such as: communicating with supported people using sign language, visual exchange communication system, health education regarding illness, helping community people and becoming the part of the community supporting them with physical, Developmental and intellectual disabilities. Thus because of this reasons I have decided to study in Fanshawe College.

I am well prepared financially to pursue my education in Canada. My family is able and willing to cover all the costs I need to study in Canada. My father runs his own business OM.G Wine Shop and he has the total annual income of NPR 3207000.20 (CAD 33,147.29). Regarding financing my studies and living expenses in Canada, he has the saving of NPR 5,507,500 (CAD $ 56,925.06) in Sanima Bank Limited (Class “A” Commercial Bank of Nepal). Also, I have paid one year of college fees and have attached all supporting documents with this application for your reference.

A developing country like Nepal needs a skilled and capable manpower to take Part in developing nation. I would apply in this these platforms via their career openings which are one of the finest platforms to work in Nepal for a Developmental Services Worker. At the initial I will be applying for the post of service worker in these organizations, which will be a great start in Nepal. Initially for the post of community worker I would receive payment of around NRS 80000 which would increase considerably after few more years of work experience. Working as a service worker for certain period of time I will acquire knowledge which are necessary qualities to senior positions, which includes counseling, diagnosis and treatment of community as a whole, well informed to provide resource material on technical plans, expert knowledge of methods of organization and procedures. After having few years of experience & exposures, I will be getting paid between NRS 100000 to NRS 150000 per month. My promotions not only increase my salary, it also increases my skills, organizational positions and ability to make a strong decision and develop my leadership skills.

My family has always been my greatest source of motivation and my biggest supporters. They tried every possible way to provide us with quality education and make our lives better. My family has always inspired me in every possible way, they taught me to work hard and achieve everything you dreamt of. I feel so lucky to find the supportive family. I want to return to my place with skills, knowledge and global experience and want to contribute as much as I can to make my community better place to live. Despite my plan and career, my family has given me so much until now. I am very lucky to have parents like them who has been supportive in each of my decisions in life. I want to make them proud in my future by achieving my career plan. I want to be with them when they would be in need of my support when they would be in their old age.
