                               STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Introduction

I am Bishleshan Rai from Sindhuli East, 02 Hariharpur Gadhi. Born on 14 May 2004, Son of Mr. Bishnu Bahadur Rai. I am a Nepalese citizen(20-01-79-07395) and I hold a Nepalese passport (BA0037433). I have recently completed my Intermediate (+2) in Management Stream 2022 and I want to continue my further study in the UK.

Educational Qualifications:

I completed my secondary level from Omega international school, Nepal in 2020 securing a score of 3.30 GPA. After completing my secondary level I joined Nightingale International College in 2022  and scored 2.64 GPA. After that I started working as a Front desk Officer from May 2022.  I researched for my further study options and  I finally decided to study in the UK at the University of East London to study BSc

Why Not Nepal ?

One of the major reasons for not studying further in Nepal. Nepal lacks behind in global competition also the Nepalese Universities and Colleges don’t provide good Internship opportunities and Hence students employability is not satisfying. Higher education is very important for the development of Nation. Higher education in Nepal has faced several challenges in the shape of various economic, social, political, moral changes and the future depends on response made by its people to these challenges. The problems in the education system of Nepal are multidimensional like lack of resources, population explosion, scarcity of qualified manpower, political instability, wastage of resources, insufficient educational management system and poor implementation of the policies and program. We do not have a specific degree offered in Nepal.  Also the students are not provided with ample internship opportunities followed by old learning and teaching methodologies, Hence making the students competitive in the global world. So I chose to study abroad and this compelled me to search curriculum abroad for my further education.

Why not other countries:

As I have researched many other countries for my study abroad. Some of the reasons why I did not choose other countries like the USA, Canada, Australia and others. The reasons are the United States of America (USA) is the first choice among many international students but American universities are known to have massive tuition rates depending on what kind of school you attend. The tuition fees in the USA are comparatively higher than in the UK. Furthermore, I found visa processing time is longer and would also consume more time in preparing for the GRE as well. Furthermore, Canada is another most popular destination for international students because of its diverse variety of opportunities and experiences. It is also known for its vast expanses, multicultural cities and natural beauty. But on the other hand tuition fee is the most expensive averaging around 42000 CAD (~US$32,000). Furthermore, the climate in winter could hit below freezing point which is really unacceptable in my condition. Correspondingly, I also researched some other European countries such as Germany, Norway, Austria, and Denmark for the same course but I found that most of those countries also require you to learn their own language for the admission. So I ended up choosing the UK for my further education.

Why UK ?

According to my research, the UK has always been a top study abroad destination for international students and the reasons for this are numerous. The UK is a place where every individual is respected and well treated. As an international student we will get all the required support, right from enhancing our English Language Skills, making us familiar with the new culture to academics and research. The UK has the best academic standard in the world. Four out of the top 10 universities in the world are from the UK. Compared to other countries, the living and health-care costs are reasonable in the UK. Universities have a century- old history in Britain and also the UK is a tolerant and multicultural country that we will find people from almost every country on earth. The people in the UK are friendly and sociable.

The United Kingdom (UK) is home to some of the world’s oldest universities and colleges having their roots in the 12th and 13th centuries. Coming from such a strong legacy, education in the UK has become a benchmark for other countries. Universities in the UK have the best academic standards in the world. In fact, practical and utility-based knowledge is preferred over text-book learning in the UK which will help to acquire critical thinking and analytical skills along with creative ability in your chosen discipline. The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) is an independent body in the UK that regularly assesses the education standards of all universities and colleges in the country. Interestingly, courses in the UK education system are shorter and more intensive than many other countries, which means I’ll graduate sooner, and without compromising on quality. Likewise, while I can complete an undergraduate program in three years, I’ll be able to finish a graduate program in just one year. This not only saves my time, but also a chunk of money spent on tuition fees and living costs. As an international student, access to free medical treatment while studying in the UK through the National Health Service (NHS). In order to avail this benefit, I will have to pay a small International Health Surcharge (IHS). The UK is quite a unique country. Thousands of families from around the world have decided to live in the UK, which gives it a rich, multicultural atmosphere that you cannot find anywhere else in the world. Every year, over 200,000 international students decide to study only in England, while the number of them choosing to study in the UK is even bigger. In the UK I’ll encounter a diverse community. I’ll get to mix and meet people throughout the world, and the experience will be even richer because of being able to interact with so many different types of people. I’ll get insights into other countries and cultures, and learn a lot more than I may have been able to in my home country. The UK isn’t just unique because of its cosmopolitan flair, though. The UK holds a rich, interesting history that makes it an ideal place for people of all backgrounds. Commerce is also immense in cities like London. The nightlife is varied all over the country, and there is always something to do. Art galleries, concerts, open-air markets, and pubs are popular places for the English to congregate and enjoy themselves. The UK’s academic reputation is world-renowned. Built on a heritage that is now centuries old, our approach to education applies the very latest learning theory through universities that routinely top international tables. Moreover the UK is reputed to house world- class institutions that offer courses in a variety of subject areas.

Why BA (Hons) Tourism Management ?

Tourism Management is my major subject which most of the students will choose as an excellent basis for a management career in the tourism industry. I have chosen this subject because it is based on my future career. In the future, with the help of this degree I would like to start my own business in this field like Travel agencies, Tour guides and many more in my home country. The content on the BA Tourism Management course reflects handling and supervising activities related to the tourism industry. Tourism lets us learn about the place, its culture and its heritage. Moreover when we are familiar with it there is tremendous potential for personal growth. This helps people to earn a decent income and live their lives quickly. Also it helps to build a broader perspective and brings me closer to people from other communities. Additionally it may result in the establishment of new companies and markets which also impacts the economy as a whole. Tourism leads to the creation of jobs, thus affecting the country's GDP as a whole. This results in greater inter community, empathy, understanding and respect. It lets people see monuments, places and other historical places exposing them to the different cultures and the understanding and preservation of cultural heritage can be enhanced by tourism. It brings people together and understands each other's culture which gives them an opportunity to build respect for each other and fosters cultural harmony. A typical week for me will include lectures, seminars, tutorials, open and resource based learning, and supervised project and group work. There is an emphasis on developing independent study skills. I’ll also have opportunities to present ideas and information to other students and also develop concepts and analyses within groups. Residential field study visits are important components throughout all three years of studies. Assessment methods include written coursework, projects, presentations, practical exercises, time-constrained and multiple-choice examinations and the major project in our final year. The modules I am going to study:

Year 1:

The first year is focused on building our key skills in Tourism Management while cementing on marketing, human resources, operational management, business modeling and many more.

Year 2:

In the second year, I will study the core of cultural communication, organizational cultures, digital-intelligence, company analysis, technological trends, e-tourism, investment analysis, and experienced design. I also learn to look critically at offers, operational processes and concepting. I help an organization progress by making tactical improvements to their services. I can also stimulate visits by branding destinations, tours, and events by promoting and well-being.

Year 3

The third year is to practice research skills in preparation for graduation assignment.  Together with the project group I carry out a project in the field of tourism and leisure for a certain period of time going through the entire graduation process. This year the focused topics are strategic management, commercial skills, responsible tourism, ethics and more. After this it is all about graduating. I can personalize our graduation year with the Tourism Management Program .

Future plan

Being in the higher position like tourism officer or by establishing my tour agencies to guide people throughout Nepal. I will make sure everything runs smoothly, which usually means arranging travel plans, coordinating with venues, managing money, facilitating media inter-reaction and scoping out local services at each tour stop. The international degree will help me to develop my agencies in the best way in my home country. This degree could be the first step towards my career as a:  Holiday Representative, Tour manager, Tourism Officer, Tourist Guide and Travel Agencies manager. But I want to work as a Tourist Guide or a tourism officer as they are highly demanded in my home country (Nepal). I will be offered an attractive salary of NRs. 100000 to NRs. 130000 with which I can easily sustain a quality life in Nepal. I am really close to my family and home nation. It would be a really struggle and challenging task to stay away from them for long. I declare that all the information provided above is true. Hope to hear a positive response from the university. Thank you!

Sincerely yours,

Bishleshan Rai
